The visit gave students a firsthand look at the da Vinci robotic surgical system, including an opportunity to practice using the technology. Students compared robotic-assisted surgery with traditional laparoscopic techniques, exploring how different tools and approaches support surgical care.
Hospital staff also led students through Stop the Bleed training, teaching them skills to help control severe bleeding in emergency situations. The training added a practical component to the visit, connecting science instruction with skills students could use to help others.
Through hands-on activities and guidance from hospital staff, students connected classroom learning with real-world healthcare applications. The experience also introduced them to potential careers in healthcare and the technology used by medical professionals.
The N.B. Clements Junior High School community appreciates the welcoming staff of Bon Secours Southside Medical Center for sharing their expertise and providing students with an engaging opportunity to explore science beyond the classroom.
