Prince George Community Experiences Next Generation of Fine Arts During 25th Anniversary of PGCPS Spring Fling Arts Showcase

March 7, 2026

Hundreds of students, families, teachers, and members of the Prince George County community turned out in droves for the 25th edition of the district’s annual Spring Fling arts showcase on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Prince George High School, taking in visual and performing arts experiences featuring hundreds of students across elementary and secondary grade levels.

During the silver anniversary of the Spring Fling, a diverse selection of visual and performing arts pieces was on display, drawing a steady stream of visitors to Prince George High School's commons area, auditorium, and gymnasium.

In addition to celebrating students' artistic talents each year, the event raises funds through ticket sales and donations that enable fine arts educators in Prince George County to award a scholarship to a graduating senior. The Spring Fling Arts Scholarship makes a meaningful difference in students’ lives beyond the classroom as they begin their careers. Eligible candidates are graduating seniors who have been actively involved in a fine arts discipline during school and plan to continue their studies in that field in college.

The 25th anniversary was on the minds of many passing through the doors of the Spring Fling, especially the fine arts teachers and volunteers on hand for the weekend event.

With $500 in seed money from the Prince George County School Board Office in the early 2000’s, the Spring Fling fine arts festival would come to life annually, becoming a self-sustaining event ever since, hosted each March and coinciding with National Youth Art Month, Music in Our Schools Month, and Theater in Our Schools Month. Through various venues, thousands of pieces of art, and hundreds of student-led performances, the arts event has become one of the highest-attended events of the school year and an institution in the community, drawing media attention and eyes from neighboring communities.

“Other than graduation, I believe it’s safe to say Spring Fling is one of the largest events in the county. It really is a feather in the county’s cap," Mrs. Rebecca Stroop, longtime J.E.J. Moore Middle School art teacher and Spring Fling supporter, said as she reflected on the event.

For Mrs. Stroop, the impact of the community taking in the artistic talents of Prince George students, whether through applause after a stirring musical or dramatic performance or through awe at elaborate visual pieces, is immeasurable in inspiring the next generation of artists.

“When students know their performance or their artwork will be displayed and viewed by families, community members, and district leaders, their level of pride, effort, and craftsmanship rises. It validates their creativity, talent, and shows them that their work matters,” Mrs. Stroop shared.
