Future Business Leaders of America Give Back to Community Through 'Blanket Bonanza' Crafting Event, Benefiting ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation

December 19, 2024

With the holiday season on the horizon, members of a co-curricular club aimed at fostering the next generation of leaders through hands-on experiences and community service took time to give back in a meaningful way.

On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club hosted a "Blanket Bonanza" blanket-making party at Prince George High School. After enjoying a potluck meal together, approximately a dozen club members and invited guests, including classmates, parents, and community members, picked up scissors and tied off the edges of multiple handmade blankets.

Listening to a playlist of upbeat Christmas favorites, the group created multiple blankets with various unique patterns, including sports, hearts, and more. The blankets will be donated to the ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation in Richmond, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children with cancer and their families.

Earlier this year, the FBLA membership and sponsors visited the foundation in November and fostered a relationship with the organization. Since then, in addition to the blanket donation, the local FBLA members have also donated gift cards to area restaurants the foundation can offer to the families they sponsor.

The afterschool event aligns perfectly with the mission of FBLA, which aims to inspire and prepare students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences. It also served as a great collaborative activity, allowing club members and sponsors to work together positively and encouragingly as they helped each other craft each handmade blanket.
